This document identifies some of the more unique features relevant to staffing related commissions.

Payees - Payees are entities that receive variable payouts. Payees can be employees, external individuals or external companies.

Functionality Feature Description
  Payees can be Account Managers Payment recipients are commonly Account Managers, typically responsible for the customers. Account Managers can perform both Account Management and Recruiting functions.
  Payees can be Recruiters Payment recipients are commonly Recruiters, typically responsible for the candidates.
  Payees can be Consultants Sometimes Consultants that are being placed with customers are also paid incentives and commissions.
  Payees can be Project Managers Sometimes Project Managers responsible for projects at customer site are also paid incentives and commissions.
  Payees can be Executive Recruiters Payment recipients can be Executive Recruiters, typically responsible for the candidates.
  Payees can be external referral agents Outside groups such as software/hardware vendors that refer services can get referral commissions.

Sales Organization - Sales organization stores the reporting relationship between entities in the organization.

Functionality Feature Description
  Sales organization can have a hierarchical relationship Sales organization entities can report into each other. It can be in a hierarchical manner. There can be individual staffing offices representing geographic areas or specific industry segments. E.g. "Northern California" or "Healthcare"

Customer - Customers are the firms and individuals to whom sales is made.

Functionality Feature Description
  Customer type Customers can be identified with characteristics such as VMS customers.

Products - Products and Services are what the company sells.

  Permanent Placements This service typically places a candidate as an employee at a customer.
  Contract Placements This service typically places a candidate as contract personnel, for specific durations.
  Project Customer can be provides services on a project basis, rather than on individual candidate basis.
  Product based crediting Product information can be used in credit rules. A particular candidate placement can credit the associated revenue to a specific account manager and/or recruiter.
  Unique commissions by product Product information can be used in commission calculations. Different candidates can have different, pay rates, bill rates and overhead rates.
  Product groups Product can be grouped in a hierarchical manner. Groupings can be regions or industry segments, for example. Candidates can also be grouped as Employees or External personnel.

Commission and Bonus Calculations - Any kind of variable payouts can be calculated by the system. Calculations can include, commissions, bonuses, referrals and royalties.

Functionality Feature Description
Plan Commission plans are the agreements that the company has with its Payees. The plan specifies the rules for awarding commissions and incentives to the payee. A plan is made up of many incentives. Expand / Collapse
  Role based plans Commission plans can be different for Recruiter, Account Manager, Consultant and other roles.


Transactions Commissions can be calculated on almost ANY kind of transactions. Transactions can be imported from external sources. Transactions can also be entered/modified in the system. Some examples of other transactions that can be handled are: "Customer Satisfaction" scores, or "Appointments Made". Expand / Collapse
  Permanent Placements Commissions are calculated on Permanent Placements. Typically revenue is used.
  Contract Placements Commissions are calculated on Contract Placements. Typically margin is used in calculations
  Timesheets Commissions can be calculated when timesheets are received.
  Project Billing Commissions are calculated on customer project billings.
  Leads and Appointments Commissions can be calculated on leads brought in or appointments being made.


Transaction Events Transactions can go through various events, such as booking and payments. Expand / Collapse
  Bookings or order event Commissions can be paid on booking a placement
  Candidate Start event Commission can be paid when the candidate starts or some period after a candidate starts
  Event based delayed payment Commissions can be calculated on Order but paid when the customer is invoiced.
  Retainer Commission A portion of the commission can be paid out in advance on receiving a retainer and paid out fully on placement.
  Fallout When a placement gets rejected and it has been guaranteed, this may require chargeback of commissions.


Transaction Amounts Amounts available on transactions can be used in the commission calculations. Expand / Collapse
  Profit/Margin Commissions can be calculated based on Profit/Margin. Typically this is the difference between bill rate to the customer, minus pay rate to the candidate including any overhead costs.
  Hours Commissions can be calculated on hours. Hours can be divided into billable and non-billable hours and used only as approproate.
  Double-time/Over-time Commissions can be calculated on additional hours as double-time and over-time.
  Transaction counts Number of transactions such as placements or appointments can be counted and use dfor commissions.
  Other Amounts Commissions can be calculated based on almost ANY amount that is available on transactions.


Crediting Transactions Crediting is the process of allocating a transaction (sales or other) to the right payee. Mostly a single person gets the credit for a transaction, but sometimes multiple people may get credit for the same transaction. The credit rules are applied against all the transactions entered/imported into the system. Expand / Collapse
  Credit by Branch/Offices Incoming transactions can be credited to Payees, based on branch/sales organization values available on the transactions.
  Credit by Project All transactions from a particular project can be credited to a particular Payee.
  Credit by Candidate All transactions from a particular candidate can be credited to a particular Payee.


Incentives: Commission and Bonuses Incentives are any unique calculation formula used to calculate payouts for a Payee. A monthly commission for sales revenue is an incentive; an annual bonus based on quantity of items sold is also an incentive. A Payee's plan consist of multiple incentives. Expand / Collapse
  Permanent Placement Commission Commissions can be paid based on permanent placement transactions. It is typically based on revenue. It is typically split between 2 or more Account Managers and Recruiters
  Contract Placement Commission Commissions can be paid based on contract placements. It is typically based on margin. It is typically split between 2 or more Account Managers and Recruiters
  Billable Hours Incentive Commissions can be paid based on numbers of hours billed by a candidate in a month. Different tiers of hours attainment can pay out flat commission amounts, for example.
  Number of Placements Incentive Commissions can be paid based on count of active placements or new placements.
  Retainer Commission Commissions can be paid in advance on retainer and completely paid out on placement.
